Prices of Laguna agates
Share
Dear collectors of the finest agates,
Just today I got asked by collectors, how much his pieces are worth, and it is something that I get asked on a frequent basis.
It is not an easy question to respond to, because agates don't follow an easy scheme of purity and color shades like other gemstones do.
A lot of pricing agates comes down to plain and simple subjective taste.
But with that also of course optical factors like finesse of banding, contrast, depth, fracture-freeness.
Of course, economic factors are part of it too. Those would be the rarity of the specimens and ability to move easily and quickly on the market.
If agates from a specific location are pretty and low-priced, but they don't sell, then they are overpriced. If agates from a different locality are pretty and expensive and still sell, then they may be priced just right, or be underpriced to what else is available from that locality that could be compared.
And comparison is of course another interesting factor. What did other pieces from the same locality sell for, that could be somewhat compared in their colors, banding and size?
But that is only possible up to a certain point. How do you price such exceptional pieces, that there isn't even anything that would compare?
On the other hand my hot take for the day: pretty much anything lower than $50 is pretty much worthless, because the time, effort and money that goes into it from buying the rough stone, cutting it, polishing, taking pictures for selling it, inventorying it, storing it, paying taxes on the sale and possible fees on the sales platform, paying for shipping materials and shipping it, submitting the paperwork and invoices to your accountant and the IRS, you will have spent 1-2 hours total or more per piece, and at least a few bucks to get all that done.
To help you get a better feel for the market and where it is right now, a few months ago I published a video on the pricing of Malawi agates.
In comparison, now, today's video is about pricing, and price changes of Laguna agates from Mexico. Prices for Laguna agates have been moving more actively than any other location I could tell, with still a big desire in the market for them, although prices are higher than ever before.
On my website you will find a nice array of new specimens from the Laguna agate area in various price ranges.
If you search for "Laguna" with the search bar, you will find every Laguna agate I have currently available on my website.
Please enjoy the new video and share it with your friends, if you think they can learn something from it. We have just hit 6,000 followers on my Youtube channel, and I appreciate all the support and the education about agates I can spread with these video projects, so leave it a like and a nice comment below the video if you enjoyed it or learned something.
All the best and wishing you a great weekend,
Joshua & Agatebay-Crew
