Dear collectors of rare agates,
On Sunday I will be hosting a Live show on Facebook, featuring some of the most affordable agates I have ever offered, as well as some spectacular high-end finds as well.
This week's journey takes us to a faraway Island!
Nobody knows for sure where this Island is, except for the one who knows. Mysterious words here and so are these wonderful agates from this Island...
All of the pieces found at this locale have a beautiful smooth skin, due to the alluvial transportations through river systems on this Island. Some of them have also been exposed to the surface for a long time, resulting in gorgeous windows of weathered out banding.
But also inside they can show wonderfully swung banding.
The banding in these nodules is often not symmetrically structured, and for that reason the best cut may often not be through the optical center of the stone, since the banding may be moved to a side of the piece.
In this week's YouTube video you can watch me talk about 6 pieces of this species and how I decide on cutting them.
Unfortunately not all of them turned out good enough for my website, so I filled this week's update with some more spectacular specimens from this locale. One of them being one of the best specimens I have cut from this place yet, featuring wonderful eye formations.
You can also find an agate in comparison from Sumatra, which was once in the collection of well known and loved agateer and book author Dietrich Mayer. A Botswana agate with similar moved out banding is part of this update as well as a beautiful rare triangular shaped polyhedroid agate.
Wish you all a great weekend and wonderful agate finds,
Joshua
