Dear collectors,
It’s not Thanksgiving yet, but I am giving you the chance to look at some Turk-ish agates.
Turkey is most widely known for their stick agate deposits north of Ankara from the town of Cubuk.
Over the last decade many new localities around this town have been discovered, producing thundereggs, seam agates, plume agates, agates in a flowing rhyolithe and agatized limb casts!
But it’s not just around Cubuk that agates can be found. The Black Sea has also become more and more known for producing nice agates as well as the small locality of Almus, which are also known as Tokat agates.
These specimens first showed up in Europe about a decade ago and are easily distinguishable with their round and smooth shape popping right out of the host rock that they are mined in. They are perhaps the locality that most regularly produces specimens with membrane curls more than anywhere else in the world.
While they don’t have an extraordinary cutting rate of high quality pieces, some specimens can turn out very unique and wonderful from time to time. You can see a glimpse of what could happen when you cut open some pieces in my latest YouTube video — which you can watch right now!
These specimens and many other wonderful new pieces from Turkey are currently available on my website.
Head over to my website to see if you‘d like add any of these specimens to your collection!
Hope you all have a great weekend,
Joshua & Agatebay-Team
